Thought is was time for an update on the blog, as many of you know we try to do daily updates on our twitter account, which you can see on the right side of this blog.
Johanna’s Birthday was a big hit, she did exactly what she wanted to during the day & at 5pm, we drove over to Don & Brenda’s where a surprise was waiting to happen! After an amazing dinner of freshly caught Yellow Tail, Scallops, Rice, Salad & Chocolate Birthday cake (thanks Moxy), we headed back to the boat where we all slept very well. Johanna also wanted me to pass along thanks to all who wished her well on Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Email & comments on the blog.
The weather here lately has been terrific, we have been seeing daytime temps. of 75-80 with abundant sunshine! We have been trying to enjoy this by mixing our days with a little of school, relaxing, socializing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, boat work & just everyday life.
Winter here also brings some weather, mainly short periods of strong North Winds. We have experienced these several times & have come to respect them, thankfully they are easy to forecast & we have been prepared. The forecast is calling for more strong North winds this weekend, so we are again preparing for that.
Now, let me answer a question that several people have emailed me. The question is simply, “why are you guys still there”? I could turn that into a long answer, but won’t. We’re here, because we love it here! We have amazing & generous friends here. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains & beaches. We hauled out here & got the majority of our refit work completed, however one remaining item, that wasn’t planned or noticed during the haulout is our steering cable. It’s badly fraid, probably caused by our rough passage here. We can’t source the cable & fittings here, we’re hoping that a store in La Paz will have the cable & can send it our way on the bus. If not, then we will have to source it from the USA, that will certainly take time & expense. But, that is what happens, we just roll with the punches.
Based on that repair, I think our departure will be 7 – 14 days from now. It’s a fact that we’re behind schedule based on our location, but project wise, we are doing just fine. Each day, Ocean Blue II is closer to making that crossing to the South Pacific, one that will be made from Mazatlan. I’m excited about that, I think about it everyday.
For now, I am quite happy to be sitting beside the Ship’s Cat Lucy, both of us are smelling that amazing smell! It’s Johanna cooking a whole chicken, complete with mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, corn & homemade gravy. Life is good today!
