Calm Before The Storm

by admin in Mexico

Please forgive me, as I am still working on the post regarding our haulout.

We’re currently at a mooring ball in Puerto Escondido.  The mooring ball we’re at is perfect for us, as it’s only 200′ from the dinghy dock of the Singlar marina.

Let me give you the pros & cons of this mooring ball.

Pro – Close to the dinghy dock, so quick to head into shore.

Pro – It`s a mega yacht mooring, so it`s attached to a very heavy block.

Pro – If we get a moderate North wind here, the harbour get`s wavy, being so close, we don`t get wet in the dinghy ride back to the boat.  At least not very wet.

Con – Close to the dinghy dock, so very little privacy.

Con – If we get a strong Norther, which is forecasted to happen over the next 2 days, we have to deal with pretty big waves in the harbour. Nothing dangerous for our boat, as we`re so heavy, but it will make life uncomfortable for a couple of days.

Today was a picture perfect day on the Baha!  Our temps were in the high 70`s & we had no wind!   Sounds good right?  Yes, for today, but Johanna & I have seen this weather pattern before.

Tomorrow all the forecasters are calling for a strong Norther, 35 Knots here, lasting almost 48 hours.  Hard to believe as we sit here bobbing in a perfectly still pond.  But as I mentioned, Johanna & I have seen this before.  We like to explain it as Mother Nature taking a very deep breath (which happened today).  She can’t hold her breath for long, but she at least gives us a chance to get the boat ready.  Then tomorrow she will let it all out, slowly at first, then the big gusto.

We’re ready, everything on deck is tied down.  We have 6 lines attached to the mooring ball, 3 on each side.  We have taken the outboard motor off of Old Blue, she will have to fend for herself tied behind Ocean Blue II.

It’s unlikely that we will get off the boat tomorrow, probably not until Saturday.  Stay tuned as we post via twitter & this blog on a Norther as it hit’s Puerto Escondido.
