Ocean Blue Adventures

• svoceanblue: Our Kids are going through the 30+ National Geographic issues that Frank & Darlene gave us, like gold they are.
• svoceanblue: spent this evening in the water playing water volleyball, good times
• svoceanblue: We had a wonderful & eye opening tour of a local fishing village where our Friends run a charity that helps the local school, more later
• svoceanblue: Wahoo, Spanish Rice & Coleslaw for dinner tonight, too full & happy to talk more.. so good
• svoceanblue: you know what.. sometimes we Canadians are just too damn shy, crazy to see others just walk on up & say it, we’re so reserved.
• svoceanblue: for dinner tonight – fresh caught wahoo in beer batter, homemade french fries, coleslaw, thanks to Bad Company for the Wahoo
• svoceanblue: trying to save a local’s (Mexican National) laptop, he bought it for his daughter & she filled it with viruses, 1 week till school starts

• svoceanblue: yes, we really do have night vision glasses onboard & yes, they really do work, too cool!
• svoceanblue: it’s raining, excuse me while we do the close the hatches dance
• svoceanblue: our head (toilet) has decided that it no longer wants to suck in water to flush, joy oh joy.. guess what I am doing tomorrow.
• svoceanblue: Looks like "storm" Frank will just fade away in the next 24 hours or so… Thank You, Thank You
• svoceanblue: Dad the barber just gave the whole Family a haircut, Steve is shaved, Sky is beautiful, Mommy is so elegant & Me… self cut – enough said
• svoceanblue: running the motor to charge our batteries this morning ,need that power for our fans!!
• svoceanblue: tonight – breaded chicken breasts & spaghetti, oh so good, the crew is tired after another evening of swimming
• svoceanblue: well, looks like Hurricane Frank will leave us alone, so now back to that getting out of here thing.
• svoceanblue: surrounded by some amazing cloud formations, thunder in the background, wind is picking up, might be interesting
• svoceanblue: so bloody hot…
• svoceanblue: spent the evening playing water volleyball over at cocktail cove, amazing
• svoceanblue: We’re keeping a close eye on Hurricane Frank, hoping that he won’t pay us a visit – http://bit.ly/bXYX9Z
• svoceanblue: today is a day where you need to be in the water & that is what we plan to do.
• svoceanblue: looks like it’s going to be another cooker today, they are calling for a high of 44 C
• svoceanblue: just had to change out the propane tank for the oven, why does it always have to happen when Johanna is baking?
• svoceanblue: worked on our snubber line/mooring line today, it’s now bullet proof
• svoceanblue: what an amazing night this is turning into, watching the sunset & the moon reflect on our boat… all I can say is wow
• svoceanblue: not much to report today, a few more projects completed, a family swim, homemade pizza, a game of scrabble & uno, what else can we ask for

In response to Nanny’s comment, here is what a Chubasco is.

This description is from the Sea of Cortez guidebook by Shawn Breeding & Heather Bansmer.

“A chubasco is a violent, but short-lived squall, usually accompanied by thunder, lightning, rain and strong winds.  Chubascos are a summer time convection storm that can hit at any time from the late afternoon to early morning. “

Thanks to our onboard satellite email system we can keep an eye on the cells approaching via satellite, but still surprises happen.  Just another thing trying to mess with us here in the Sea during the summer.

• svoceanblue: just got the nightly chubasco forecast – he is saying no chance of a Chubasco tonight, will sleep with one eye open in case, Goodnight all
• svoceanblue: school was in session today, Johanna & I also finshied sewing the final touches to the dodger repair, now just need zippers for the bimini
• svoceanblue: thanks to Rich on s/v Third Day who is now in San Diego, he has offered to bring us some much needed stuff for the boat that we cant gethere
• svoceanblue: ok, time for bed, our daily ritual starts now, sun shades come down, all things on deck get tied down & we read, then sleep, goodnight all
• svoceanblue: Stephen & I dove on the boat bottom today & cleaned it all, was tougher this time due to some current & wind, but all is well & clean!

• svoceanblue: good fresh breeze blowing through the anchorage now, Johanna & Kids are baking a cake, I guess the bottom cleaning dive will be tomorrow
• svoceanblue: just had a small thunderstorm roll through here, had to batten down the hatches, it actually rained! Used the fresh water to clean the boat
• svoceanblue: task for tomorrow, dive & clean the boat bottom using our fancy scuba system
• svoceanblue: all of us just came back from an amazing swim with our friends on Chez Lynne, now time for dinner – bbq chicken & rice
• svoceanblue: all of the water tanks are full, diesel full, gasoline is another story, the local gas station ran out of gas today, maybe tomorrow
• svoceanblue: today was supposed to be a boat work day, but instead it has turned into a lazy day on the boat, life is good today
• svoceanblue: Joh went into the market this morning, we are now stocked up again, tomorrow we fill with diesel, you know what is next, back out there
• svoceanblue: added 1 litre of water to the new batteries today, they are working fantastic
• svoceanblue: just finished making our new anchor snubber line, this one is heavy duty
• svoceanblue: wow, what a crazy hot night, can’t get any sleep too hot, no wind
• svoceanblue: Joh & I spent a few hours baking in the sun hand sewing our dodger & bimini repair, now time to relax over a few cold beers
• svoceanblue: enjoying another Pot Luck at the yacht club
• svoceanblue: after a week out, we’re back at Puerto Escondido for some minor repairs & reprovisions, will be here for a couple more days
• svoceanblue: wind & seas are coming up, might be a rocky night at anchor, safe with over 220 ft of chain out.
• svoceanblue: Johanna made home made bread & spaghetti sauce, oh yeah we are also in paradise at anchor…
• svoceanblue: the crew just had fresh water showers on deck, we now smell human… joys of cruising
• svoceanblue: true to it’s name, 8:30 cove didn’t let the sun into about 9AM, our private paradise for now
• svoceanblue: Just got our weather email, so looks like our satellite email is working fine
• svoceanblue: We have actually been out sailing for 4 days now, feels good to be out
• svoceanblue: bought our first "paid" amazon kindle book today, this truly will be a life saver for the Kids

Our response to this comment is simply, YES!  We still recommend Mazatlan Yachts, in fact even more so today.  They have continued to help us to this day, almost 2 years after the sale.

A few people have asked us this during the last couple of days.  My response was that we have been doing most of our updates via twitter.  With that said, I have lot’s of new blog posts that I want to write, just haven’t found the time to do that.  Now, back to twitter.  We try to do at least one twitter update daily, more if time, power  & internet access permits.  They are always quite simple, as twitter only allows us 140 characters per. post.  You can view our posts on the right hand side of our website, under “twitter updates”.

I am also going to have our system post a weekly digest of our twitter updates, this will auto post on the blog as a post every Sunday morning.

So time for another update.  For those who follow our twitter updates, you will know that we have been having some mechanical problems lately.  First, our outboard decided to dump all of it’s oil out the exhaust, then our house bank batteries decided to die.

Our outboard motor has been in the shop for over a week now & each time we visit the shop, it’s either closed or he is at lunch.  A typical Mexican waiting game, but I’m confident that he will be able to fix the outboard.  Thankfully our friend Noah has leant us his outboard & offered to sell it to us if ours can’t be repaired.  Now the batteries, they are still a bit of a mystery to me, but I think I have found what is wrong.  If I’m correct, then we won’t have to replace them, will post an update when I know more.

Now for the GOOD news!  First off we’re still in beautiful Puerto Escondido, which is a good place to be if you need to make repairs.  Secondly, I picked up my new Canadian Passport yesterday, thanks for the ride into town Ward!

Now that we have my passport, we can start getting ready to leave.  It’s probably safe to say that we will be leaving within 1 week, but of course this will depend on our repairs.
